Introducing Map Sheets
Today we’re taking a major step forward with improved support for local data that doesn’t fit well into our nationwide layers. We are calling this feature “Map Sheets” and it replaces the former Geospatial Images option with a lot of improvements. Map sheets are any geospatial image that can be referenced and placed on a map such as a JPG, TIFF, or PDF file. To start exploring the layer head here. For more details read on below.
.
Any user can submit a map to be reviewed for this layer at caltopo.com/submitmap CalTopo will review the map for quality as well as assess any copyright issues. If you are a copyright holder of a number of maps (such as a representative of a trails organization, local government, or parks organization) please e-mail us at help@caltopo.com to discuss copyright. CalTopo will provide on map hosting of your content and help provide it to other CalTopo users.
For pro, desktop, and team users we’ve also added the ability to upload a map sheet for personal use, including hosting of files by CalTopo! If the data source contains geospatial alignment data (such as a georeferenced PDF file) the file will automatically be placed in the correct spot, otherwise manual alignment is still required. This supplements and replaces the former “Geospatial Image” layer. This has been moved to a paid feature since CalTopo is now hosting an image. If you previously had Geospatial images in your account you’ll still access to those images

This is incredible – nice work!
Any chance of integrating this with the massive database of georeferenced images belonging to the ‘maplets’ app (mobilemaplets.com)?? That would be a LOT more icing on the cake!
This is highly useful.
Definitely pretty cool! Thanks guys!
Great feature! Easy and common sense to use.
If I save a “sheet map” to a map and no to my account,
can I then use it on another map? I am guessing that the
answer is no, just want to confirm.
Any word on if caltopo will be able to support viewing geopdf maps like those produced on fires. They are already hosted on the public ftp server and would be a great benefit to be able to integrate these maps into the caltopo layers.
You absolutely can: that’s exactly what this feature is. You can upload GeoPDFs to the site (Add Layer -> Map Sheet) with a pro account (including viewing in the app). We have a huge library of public geoPDFs that all users (including free users) can use called Shared Map Sheets.
Caltopo will not render the basic geopdf base layer I’m trying to upload as a custom mapsheet. Can you provide any suggestions on how to move forward or if adjustments need to be made?
You should email help@CalTopo.com and we’ll troubleshoot with you!
